Door Frames

Door frames – not to be confused with architraves. If you walk through a doorway and put your arms out to the side and above your head, that’s the door frame. It’s the bit that goes around the inside of the door and essentially gives the doorway its shape. You’ll notice there is a little bit of it missing on one side, this is called a rebate and is there so that you can close your door, and still be flush with the rest of the frame but not just swing all the way from one side to another.

Door frames are almost always made from mdf, however if you go to a public building particularly a hotel, you will often find them made from hardwood such as oak because there are fire regulations and they need to be of a certain quality.

Door frames will need ideally to match your skirting boards and architraves, so if you have installed mdf skirting boards, it would make sense to install mdf door frames, and also if you’ve installed oak skirting boards then an oak door frame would be ideal.
